The “Chart of the Day” is IBM (IBM), which showed up on Monday’s Barchart “All Time High” list with an all-time high of $193.61 and then on Tuesday rallied back up towards that high and closed +1.10% at $192.94. TrendSpotter on Tuesday issued a new Buy signal at $192.94. In recent news on the stock, Barron’s on Nov 15 carried a favorable story on IBM saying that Warren Buffett’s 5.4% stake in the company was a positive along with the fact that IBM is an international leader in most end markets, has a diverse product line, and is seeing growth in emerging markets. IBM, with a market cap of $223 billion, offers a variety of solutions that include, either singularly or in some combination, technologies, systems, products, services, software and financing.

How we found the Chart of the Day:

We found the “Chart of the Day” by scanning the Barchart “All Time High” list. In order to get to that list, we first clicked on the Stocks menu item on the Barchart home page, then on the “All Time Highs” menu item on the left menu bar. We then sorted the list by percentage gainers by clicking on the “Percent” column title. A stock that has posted a new All-Time high is typically showing strong upside momentum.

The status of Barchart’s Opinion trading systems are listed below. Please note that the Barchart Opinion indicators are updated live during the session every 10 minutes and can therefore change during the day as the market fluctuates. The indicator numbers shown below therefore may not match what you see live on the Barchart.com web site when you read this report.

Using the methods that he has pioneered, along with other technical tools, Arms will show how to identify stocks that are beginning to gather momentum; establish precise entry and exit points; and manage the trade to maximize profits.

Geared for active stock traders, the method generally calls for holding stocks for a few days to two or three weeks.

But unlike similar approaches, it does not require constant monitoring of the market, special software, or extensive analysis.

The method is simple, efficient, and easy-to-learn. A trader can put in his/her orders with a broker and simply walk away.

With the right approach, Arms emphasizes that stock trading can be fun and exciting.

And he shows how to make the less enjoyable part of trading — money management — simple and automatic.

Arms has successfully traded stocks for over 40 years, and this book digests his methods into a simple and practical approach that traders can expect to generate annual returns of about 30%.

It’s one of the most highly sought metals on the planet. If I’m right, then demand could surge more than 800% in the next four years…

And no, I’m not talking about gold, or any other precious metal for that matter.

The metal I’m thinking of is much more practical. It’s a key ingredient in everything from pharmaceuticals to rocket fuel. It’s a lubricant, a propellant and a nuclear-reactor coolant. It’s also crucial for fireworks, airplanes, glass cookware and even medicine cabinets.

Generally speaking, it has more uses than duct tape… But that’s not why I like it.

I like it because, pound for pound, this featherweight metal can store more electric energy than just about any other material…

I’m talking about lithium, the battery maker’s best friend. You probably have some of this metal within arm’s reach of you. If you own an iPod or iPad, then you definitely do.

Lithium is the central ingredient used to manufacture lithium-ion batteries.

You’ve undoubtedly heard of lithium-ion batteries. They have twice the energy density of yesterday’s outdated nickel-cadmium technology. Consequently, they’re becoming mandatory in everyday products from digital cameras to portable videos games.

Just within the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) family alone, lithium batteries are used to power iPads, iPods and iPhones. Even the MacBook Pro line of laptops uses advanced lithium-polymer batteries that are ultra-slim and capable of running 10 hours on a single charge.

All told, the global production of handheld lithium batteries rose 27% last year to 3.9 billion units. And this year, the total is expected to climb to 4.5 billion units.

Now, you may be thinking lithium’s already seen its hey-day. After all, Apple can only sell so many more iPhones and iPads. The developed world has been exposed to high-tech consumer electronics for a few years now.

But electronic gadgets are just one of the sources of demand for lithium. There’s another major use for lithium and I think it’s going to be the most powerful demand driver yet.

That’s cars, but more specifically electric cars.

Lithium-based batteries are used in the production of hybrid/electric vehicles like the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. As more consumers trade in their gas-guzzling SUVs in exchange for these fuel-efficient alternatives, demand for lithium could be greatly augmented.

For every plug-in hybrid that rolls off the assembly line, it’s going to take roughly 20 pounds of lithium to make it run. By comparison, it takes one ounce of lithium to make a laptop and a 10th of an ounce for a cell-phone. This means every electric car produced will need 320 times more lithium than a laptop and 3,200 times more than a cell phone.

And right now, the market for electric cars is still in its infancy. The high costs associated with owning an electric vehicle have deterred consumers for years. But thanks to President Obama, that’s about to change.

In an attempt to get 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2015, Congress has offered a $7,500 tax credit to anyone willing to buy a new electric car.

If that’s not enough to spur interest, Uncle Sam has also dished out $2.4 billion for battery development and $25 billion to help get automakers on board.

That cash has greased the wheels and provided ample incentive to get lithium-laden electric vehicles from the research-and-development stage to the showroom floor. Automakers already plan to introduce 42 new electric models in 2012.

And that’s just the United States, there is even more potential overseas…

In fact, China will likely overtake the United States and become the world’s largest electric vehicle producer by 2020.

Due to heavy government subsidies spurring consumer demand, Beijing intends to deploy $1.5 billion annually in the next decade to speed up the transition. For its part, Hong Kong is tripling the number of public recharging stations by next summer. Within the next few years, 500,000 electric vehicles could be rolling out of Chinese assembly lines annually.

All-in-all, the global lithium-ion transportation battery industry could soar more than 800%, from revenue of $878 million last year to $8 billion by 2015, according to Pike Research, a market-research and consulting firm.

These are some big numbers. Anytime you see revenue measured in millions moving to revenue in the billions, something big is happening…

Action to Take –> As market penetration rates rise, global production of electric/hybrid vehicles could surpass 200 million units per year by 2020. That’s a lot of car batteries — and yet another reason why the world has become increasingly hungry for lithium.

– Nathan Slaughter

P.S. — Investing in lithium can be tricky. It doesn’t trade on a major exchange and there’s no ETF that tracks the price of lithium. Consequently, it can be difficult for investors to gain exposure. In my December issue of Scarcity of Real Wealth, I identified two of my favorite lithium plays in the business. One of my picks is up more than 429% in the past five years alone, but I’m confident there is room to run. You can learn more about my advisory by watching this presentation here.

Great Rags To Riches Trading Story

Andy is an engineer who trades gold and silver part time. On April 29, 2011 he had less than $1,600 in his trading account. In the five months that followed, he turned it into $1.4 million.

You can click here to get his story and the secret behind his success.

What fascinates me is that he uses a fairly simple trading strategy. A strategy that has a long history of turning tiny trading accounts into million dollar fortunes.

I don’t want to call this a rags to riches trading strategy, but that’s definitely the picture you get when you put together all the traders who use it.

Traders like:

A 19-year-old trader who borrowed $1,600 to start trading, and became a millionaire by the time he was 26…

A 52-year-old contractor who went from making $50,000 a year in a full-time job, to making millions from his $11,000 trading account… and

A trader who started with about $5,000 and 12 years later ended up with $15 million by using the same basic approach.

It’s a remarkable strategy, but it’s NOT for everyone.

You may not be comfortable using this strategy, and that’s fine.

You need to find trading strategies and systems that fit your personality and trading style. Otherwise, you’ll never succeed.

That’s why I think you should check out what Andy does.

Maybe you could be really successful using his trading strategy. Maybe it fits your personality and style better than what you do now.

After seeing what he does, maybe you’ll be convinced that you are better off using your current trading strategy, and become a more confident trader.

Either way, this free video is worth watching—even if only because it delivers several very interesting insights into why some traders come out of nowhere, and hit it really big.

Click here to watch it now.

P.S. One of the most critical insights in this video is that all of these traders share three things; they use the same basic strategy, trade the same type of market and have a similar approach to risk.

It’s a strong argument that if you dream of turning a small amount of money into a big one, you want the three elements that are revealed in this video on your side.

Despite the ongoing debt crisis in Europe, and the insane market volatility that comes with it, I’m going to go out on a limb and say theeconomy has turned a corner. In the long run, I think equities markets will follow a generally upward, though very rocky, path. At this time next year, my best guess for the Dow Jones Industrial Average is to be around 13,050, and for the S&P 500, roughly 1,365 — about 10% higher than today in both cases.

While such gains would be great, the possibility raises a pressing issue — getting certain high-quality, dividend-paying blue chip stocks before prices become prohibitive. [It's exactly times like these -- just before the stock market is likely to go on a major run -- that makes it ideal to scoop up these "forever stocks," which StreetAuthority Co-founder Paul Tracy talks about in this special presentation.]

Since relatively safe stocks like these are very popular right now, some are already on the verge of becoming overpriced. So retirees and others seeking safe havens should consider grabbing shares soon. To wait much longer would be to risk buying too high, muting futureappreciation potential and increasing the chance of painful losses.

I could be talking about any number of “forever stocks,” but the one I have in mind is The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO). Because of its huge size, global presence and enduring business, the stock’s a great safe haven. It’s much less volatile than the market, so it lets you sleep better, and it’s yielding a solid 2.8%. But at around $68 per share, Coca-Cola has pretty much hit fair value.

There are numerous signs of this, including the stock’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 12.5, which isn’t far below the average P/E ratio for the soft drinks industry, which is 13.7. The stock’s price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 3.4 is already noticeably higher than the industry average of 2. So is Coca-Cola’s price-to-cash flow (P/CF) ratio — currently 17.4, compared with an industry average of 13.

Even so, shares are worth current prices because Coca-Cola is likely to keep thriving. Sales have risen 9% annually for the past five years, and analysts project 10.5% growth for the next five years. Earnings, which posted 9% annual growth during the prior five years, are expected to advance 10% annually. Analysts foresee solid dividend growth of 9.5% a year, only slightly off the 10.5% pace of the previous five years.

Although mature North American markets will certainly continue to be a crucial revenue source, they may not contribute all that much to future growth. Sales in the region have been unimpressive, rising by only 1% in the third quarter, for instance. As is the case for most top companies these days, by far the best results are to be found in emerging markets like China, where sales volume rose 11%, India (19%) and Mexico (8%) in the third quarter. Emerging markets should provide the best growth opportunities in the long-term, too, as people in those regions become progressively wealthier and demand more bottled beverages.

Because of this, Coca-Cola plans to invest $20 billion in emerging markets by 2020, focusing mainly on Africa, Mexico, Russia and China. One of the latest investments, announced April 12 of this year, was a three-year, $62-million spending program to upgrade existing facilities in Kenya, which include seven bottling plants and 22 production lines. Of the $20 billion Coca-Cola plans to invest in emerging markets during the next nine years, $12 billion is earmarked for Kenya because management is especially bullish on the African region.

Risks to consider: Rising commodity prices have been a major obstacle for many companies, including Coca-Cola. Greater-than-expected price increases in the future, particularly for sugar, could significantly reduce earnings.

Action to Take –> Analysts see Coca-Cola’s stock rising to between $105 and $130 a share by the end of 2016, a projected gain of about 55-90% from current prices. Considering the potential headwind of rising commodity costs, and the fact that the Federal Reserve is now forecasting much slower economic growth than it originally predicted, I think the lower end of those ranges is probably more realistic.

Still, even if the stock were only to rise 55%, you’d still be looking at an annual return of 11.6% for the next four years — not bad at all, and likely better than what the overall market will deliver during that time. So I disagree with those who say now isn’t the time to invest in Coca-Cola. Now’s an excellent time — just don’t wait too long.
